Did you just have a baby? Well, you don’t have to give up your dreams in order to provide for your child. You can do both. I’m going to tell you how having a baby can unlock your greatness and propel you towards accomplishing your goals. It has happened time and time again to humans just like you. You’re no different from them – so don’t settle for a job you hate. You can have it all.
I wanted to be a rapper when I was a teenager. I was really good too. For instance, I won $1,500 on New York’s number 1 radio station Hot 97 and used the money to pay for studio time to record a demo. Once it was done, I went to New York, sat outside of a record label, and said the exact same phrase to everyone that came out of the building. It was something like “I’m a rapper and I’m so hot I gotta go upstairs to see the devil. You should sign me!”
A brilliant plan I know. The only issue was – it was the dead of winter. So after a couple of hours standing in the cold, my face began to literally freeze. So when someone finally asked me to rap – I couldn’t fully move my mouth to get my lyrics out. I wasn’t as hot as I thought. Still, I did manage to get a phone number that landed me a few meetings at a record label. I was hyped – I am on my way to becoming a rapper. Then, I found out I was having a baby.
Everyone in my life told me I needed to be responsible. Therefore, I got a job answering phones for the phone company. Having a daughter was an excuse to give up my rap dreams in order to – do the right thing. I was miserable for almost a decade. Then I discovered how to use my baby as motivation to unlock my greatness. Therefore, changing my life forever.
HAVING A BABY IS ROCKET FUEL FOR ACCOMPLISHING YOUR DREAMS
Your child is your key to unlock to success. In his book, “The Road” Cormac McCarthy wrote “He knew only that his child was his warrant. If (your child) is not the word of God – God never spoke.” That’s the true reason they say a child is a blessing from God, I believe. Like a warrant – your kid is your authorization to unlock greatness and propel you towards accomplishing your dreams.
When Donald Fisher founded Gap he was a 40-year-old man with no prior experience in retail sales. What he did have, were three sons ranging from 15 to 8 years old – the youngest was born with a medical condition. With this intention, the love of his boys, he added LP records to the list of things he sold in The Gap. Therefore, appealing to 12-25-year-olds. When your children are part of the DEMO they become in-house market research. Use your kids to mentor you on what’s new and innovative.

When you have this type of asset living with you – it’s explicit approval that you are entitled to do great things. Use your kid as your purpose and motivation – I like to call this your fuel for accomplishing your dreams.
YOU ARE A ROCKET
One of the best things about being a human is that you have intellect and free will. In My Philosophy For Successful Living, Jim Rohn points out how humans can interact with their environment on a high level – using self-education and personal development to make dramatic changes in their life. Your success will be defined by how you behave and how you interact with the world. Those are two things you control and no one can take away from you. That’s power.
This means whether your kid blocks your future is solely on you. React in a way that says you’re blocked then you are stuck. If you react in a way where you learn, adapt, and move accordingly you will achieve success. If your child is the fuel then you are the rocket. Reading these books will teach you how to unlock your greatness.
CREATE YOUR FLIGHT PLAN
So now that you have the fuel and the vehicle you need to do two things. Figure out where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. It’s time to make your plan. In this case, the most important part of unlocking your greatness.
Taking time to sit down and write out your goals for the present, the near future, and the more remote future is a necessary part of transforming your life. – Jim Rohn
People talk a lot about planning but rarely ever explain how to make a plan. I start with a series of questions.
- What do I love?
- How do I make money from what I love?
- What do I want for myself and my family?
- What do I want for my business?
- Do my goals scare me?
- How much do I want to share?
- What am I willing to sacrifice?
- How do my goals make me feel?
- What steps need to be done to achieve all of this?
- What can I do now?
- How will the universe help me to accomplish this?
Asking yourself questions is an important part of gathering the knowledge you need to unlock your greatness. Coincidentally it’s also how you form the plan to take you to the next level.
GIVE A HELPING HAND
Another important thing you need to do is change your perspective on having kids. Mind Valley creator Vishen Lakhiani talks a lot about how we must upgrade our belief system. We were taught so many things that are either wrong, outdated, or no longer fit our lifestyles. Fortunately for us, we can change. Pay attention to a kid and you will realize they always want to help. It doesn’t matter how big or how small, they want to help. “Dad can I help you change the carburetor” might be annoying and ridiculous coming from a 3-year-old. But, it’s that kind of can-do attitude that we need in order to be successful.
Our goals should help the world. It could be really big or it could be really small – it just needs to help. If you put the effort into helping others, you will have everything you want in life. Start with your kids and your family. Add that into the DNA of your purpose and the results will not only help you and those around you but also the world. You’re the superhero the world has been asking for – your kids are your special powers.
Use this information and commit to making yourself better and you’ll unlock your greatness very soon. How do you plan to be great?
